You're All I Need

Have you ever been in a place where everything in your life seems to be going wrong? You name it, it happened and all in the same week. And after everything that's happened, you feel like you have no one to talk to - your friends aren't answering your texts, your family is too busy and you can't seem to find anyone to talk to.

So what do you do in that place you're in? Often times these are the moments we call out to God, but it's usually as a last resort.

Psalm 73:25 says "Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You."

The moments in life that drive us to God are actually blessings in disguise. Life happens everyday and as much as we would like to, no matter how old we get, we will never have all the answers. It's in those moments when we genuinely say, "God you're all I have left," that we realize that God is all we ever need.


STOP Overthinking!

Here's some food for thought...

In any given day, how often are your thoughts fixed on your problems, on your future, on your boyfriend (or maybe that guy you like), or even who got in a fight with who on the reality show you love to watch.

Let's snack on some point or another we're all been guilty of thinking too much. Now you could argue that overthinking is normal for most people. Many times the things we think about aren't bad in themselves (family, friends, school, work, etc.). However it becomes a problem when those things consumer our thoughts. That's when they become like a snowball rolling down a hill and grow into something much bigger like worry, stress and fear.

God knows us so well. He knew that, no matter what our age, we would have moments like this and His Word gives clear advice on how to handle these situations.

Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things."

Now picture this: What if we took all those bad thoughts, all those fearful thoughts, all those worrisome thoughts, all those stressful thoughts, and all those thoughts stealing our attention and replaced them with truthful thoughts, pure thoughts, lovely thoughts, praiseworthy thoughts, etc. How much more peaceful would our minds be? How much more joyful, content and worry-free would we be?

So as you go through the rest of your week, I challenge you (and myself) to STOP OVERTHINKING!




Day 1

Did you cry yesterday? I did.

Did you get some news you weren't hoping for yesterday? I did.

Did you say something you wish you didn't yesterday? I did.

The great thing about today is that it's not yesterday -  that means we can leave everything from yesterday right where it belongs -  in yesterday. One of my favorite Bible verses is in Philippians 3:13 where it tells us to forget the past and look forward to what's ahead. I know it's easier said than done but think about how worry-free our lives would be if we took that approach.

I was inspired recently by a song called "Day One" by Matthew West. Here's just a snippet of the lyrics:

Well, I wish I had a short term memory
Wish the only thing my eyes could see
Was the future burning bright right in front of me
But I can't stop looking back

Yeah, I wish I was a perfect picture of
Somebody who's never not good enough
I try to measure up but I mess it up
And I wish I wasn't like that

I wish I wasn't wishing anymore
Wish I could remember that nobody's keeping score
I'm tired of throwing pennies in a well
I gotta do something
Here goes nothin'

It's day one of the rest of my life
It's day one of the best of my life
I'm marching on to the beat of a brand new drum
Yeah, here I come 
The future has begun
Day one

I admit I used to be a self-confessed dweller -  you know the type of person who has a hard time letting go of what happened in the past. No matter  how big or how small the situation was, they keep bringing it up and talking about it.  I've realized that you can't take yesterday's baggage into today's  journey. When God blesses us to wake up in the morning, it's more than "just another day" -  it's a brand new day.

Today is always better than yesterday but you have to make it that way. If you keep dwelling on what happened in the past, your present and your future will never change.  It's taken me a long time to get to this place in life and I'm not saying I have it all figured out but thank God I'm a work in progress. 

It also doesn't mean that there won't be hard times - that's a given but just know that no matter what happened yesterday, today can still be "Day one of the rest of your life, day one of the best of your life" - but only if you let it.
